An agreement to allow DaimlerChrysler finance department workers to work overtime appears to be on the horizon.

The overtime is needed to allow annual reporting to be completed in time for a scheduled 14 February presentation in Detroit and an annual general meeting on 4 April in Berlin, according to dpa-AFX news.

The dispute arose because the company called for overtime at the same time Dieter Zetsche is proposing to axe 3,300 white collar jobs in Germany as part of plans to drastically reduce DC’s white collar workforce by 6,000 world-wide. There have been suggestions that jobs in departments such as finance and accounting might be moved from the company’s headquarters in Stuttgart, and from the truck plant in Worth, to a low-cost country – Prague in the Czech Republic has been mooted as a possible location.

An agreement has been put forward by a labour court in Stuttgart. The DaimlerChrysler workers council could still object to the agreement and, if they do, this would lead to delays in reporting accounts. DaimlerChrysler management is determined that scheduled events will take place, however.
