DaimlerChrysler could more than double operating profit to €11.2 billion ($US13.7 billion) by 2008, a German magazine reported, citing internal planning documents it said it had obtained.

A DC spokesman declined to comment to Reuters on the Focus-Money report, which was released ahead of publication on Wednesday.

The news agency said the magazine reported the Mercedes Car Group division planned an operating profit of €4.7 billion by then, of which its Smart minicar business would contribute 300 million.

U.S. arm Chrysler was shooting for operating profit of 2.3 billion while its market-leading commercial vehicles business aimed for 2.0 billion. Its services and other activities operations had pencilled in 2.2 billion, the magazine reportedly said.

Reuters noted the German-American group generated a 2004 operating profit of €5.75 billion and has forecast a slight increase in 2005 operating profit excluding up to €1.2 billion in restructuring costs for Smart.
