Daimler is hoping to expand its truck business in India and Russia.

Daimler truck division head Andreas Renschler told Financial Times Deutschland that negotiations to set up new partnerships in both countries are well advanced, and that details should be announced shortly.

Daimler is hoping to build a new plant to assemble trucks in Russia. A decision is expected by the end of the year.

Daimler has a very minimal presence in India. Last month, the head of DaimlerChrysler’s Indian operations, Wilfried Aulbur, said that Mercedes-Benz trucks would be assembled alongside cars at its Pune assembly plant by the end of this year. Daimler is expected to build a new plant in Pune that will start production by 2009.
