Daimler is playing its cards close to its chest concerning reports it might be interested in a potential bid for Fiat’s spun-off Industrial division.

Fiat Industrial will include the truck, industrial and maritime, agricultural and construction equipment business, while the car and related components will be separate. Italian reports have linked the German company with the former.

“Daimler is not denying or excluding the possibility of speaking with somebody at Fiat as we work regularly on engines,” a Daimler spokesman in Stuttgart told just-auto.

“Everybody in our business is talking to everybody else about co-operation, but regarding that specific rumour about Fiat, we are in no talks with Fiat on the subject.”

Fiat yesterday (22 September) said in reaction to press speculation surrounding its Industrial division, that: “In the normal course of business, the Group reviews opportunities  to enhance operational synergies and access to new markets through potential cooperation of varied nature with other international manufacturers for each of its businesses.”
