Daimler and Renault are planning to extend their partnership on car development to batteries for electric cars, ‘a person familiar with the matter’ has said.
Daimler and Renault are currently in talks over a battery tie-up, which would see the French company enter into Daimler’s Li-Tec battery joint venture with Evonik, the source told Reuters.

The two carmakers are discussing technical needs, and will enter talks with chemicals group Evonik once these are clear, the person said.
Renault already cooperates with Daimler on small cars such as the Smart and Twingo under a stake-swap and development deal announced in April 2010. They said at the time they were discussing cooperation on electric vehicles, the report noted.
German publication Manager Magazin said earlier Daimler also wished to involve Japanese electronics group NEC in Li-Tec.
