Daimler booked second quarter EBIT of EUR2,243m, down from EUR2,581m the previous year and net profit also dipped to EUR1,515m from EUR1,704m).
“Despite the high expenses as previously announced for new products and technologies, our company was once again very profitable in the second quarter. We achieved strong growth in unit sales and revenue,” said chairman Dieter Zetsche.
Full-year results are expected to be flat versus 2011, he added.
Daimler sold 570,300 cars and commercial vehicles worldwide, up 8%.
Revenue increased 10% to EUR28.9bn.
Mercedes-Benz car sales rose 4% to 370,400 units and revenue increased 5% to EUR15.4bn but EBIT slipped to EUR1,314m from EUR1,566m. The division’s return on sales was 8.6% (Q2 2011: 10.7%).
