The plant will be built in Arnstadt, not far from Daimler’s engine plant in Kölleda. With an initial investment of EUR45m, it will be owned by a joint venture of Daimler and IHI group called IHI Charging Systems International (ICSI) which has its head office in Heidelberg.


Turbochargers for petrol and diesel engines will be shipped from the end of this year. The plant could employ up to 800 people. ICSI already has a turbocharger plant in Milan.


IHI Group employs 23,000 people worldwide and supplies the aerospace and automotive industries. It has an annual turnover of around EUR8.2bn.
