Daimler, Jaguar’s ultra-luxury sub-brand, will return to the market after a three-year absence, reports Automotive News Europe.

A long-wheelbase version of the XJ will wear the Daimler badge. It also will have a price tag that is expected to be well over €100,000, making it Jaguar’s most expensive model.

The British carmaker will debut its Daimler at September’s IAA in Frankfurt, said Stephen Perrin, Jaguar’s global marketing director. The new Daimler goes on sale before the end of 2005. When Jaguar replaced the XJ three years ago the Daimler nameplate disappeared.

In 1896, Gottlieb Daimler established a UK subsidiary that carried his name. The carmaker developed its own luxury limousines that became popular with the British royal family. Jaguar bought the Daimler brand in 1960 and has used it ever since for its most exclusive models.
