The German car market rose by 7.2% in January to 206,000 units according to the German auto importers’ association, VDIK.
The January gain will reinforce optimism about prospects for the German car market this year, although industry sources also suggest that market conditions are highly competitive.
The VDIK noted that diesel car sales were particularly strong in January, but no further details were available.
The VDIK also suggested that “the positive trend will continue”.
In 2013, the German car market fell short of the 3m mark with sales down 4.2% on 2012.
