Bosch has announced that it has started production of a new generation of electrical drives that on average are around 20% lighter and smaller than traditional drivers. The drives are currently designed mainly for seat adjustment.
Bosch said that the models of the NSA (New Seat Actuator) also produce less noise.
The main technology development is the use of a new magnet technology to increase the power density of the motor and thus make the drives more compact in design. The compact design gives vehicle developers greater freedom in designing new seat structures, and takes out weight, thus contributing to lower fuel consumption. The drives can deliver high adjustment forces even at low motor speeds, thus reducing the level of noise.
Bosch said that typical applications for the new drives are: longitudinal, height, inclination, and backrest adjustment for seats, steering column and belt height adjustment, reversible belt tensioners, cargo area covers, and locking and unlocking of convertible tops or tailgates. The range of applications is expected to be expanded.
