The Tiguan compact 4×4 is the first model in the Volkswagen range to be fitted with a four-cylinder diesel engine featuring common-rail technology from Bosch. The engine already meets the Euro 5 emissions standard.
The new diesel engine develops an output of 138 horsepower with good torque characteristics – 320 Nm at only 1,750 rpm. Fuel consumption is claimed as at the top end of its class at 39 miles per gallon (7.2 litres per 100 kilometres).
Bosch also claims that the Tiguan engine is one of the quietest four-cylinder diesel units in its class.
The CRS3.2 system has an injection pressure of 1,800 bar and consists of piezo injectors, a high pressure pump and an engine control unit all provided by Bosch.
The engine already complies with the 2009 Euro 5 emissions standard.
