BMW is to update the software of its i3 range extender models because these vehicles have been been affected by an acceleration issue.
Testing showed that 0-60 mph acceleration increased to 40 seconds from 7.5 seconds with the battery at empty, AutoGuide.com reported.
The software was designed to start the engine when the battery is down to 6%. After the update, the software will help reserve more charge in the battery by engaging the range extender earlier.
After the software update, vehicle owners will be able to view additional details of the battery’s charge with the navigation system using topographical information to maintain more reserve battery when the car is going uphill.
