BMW Mini’s redesigned Clubman, pictures and details of which were released today, is larger than its predecessor and ditches the controversial, rear hinged, right side only, rear side door for four conventional doors while retaining barn style rear doors.
It will be launched in the UK in Cooper, Cooper D and Cooper S forms with navigation standard across the board.
Engines are an I3 petrol 1.5, and I4 petrol and diesel two-litre units, all with turbocharging and direct injection.
As well as six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, a new eight-speed Steptronic will be offered with the I4 engines. New optional features include rear door release by waving a foot under the rear bumper or pressing a button on the key fob.
Order taking starts at dealers this week with first customer deliveries in the autumn.
Mini claims the new model is “a premium vehicle featuring the highest level of ride refinement ever seen in a Mini” plus “generous space for five occupants, excellent luggage capacity and classic Mini driving characteristics”.
