BMW Group reports that August sales of passenger cars were 21% ahead of last year. The number of BMW and Mini brand cars delivered to customers in August rose by 13,000 to 73,700. In the first eight months of the year, the number of cars delivered increased by 19% to 709,300 units.

Growth was most pronounced in the Mini brand, which has been ramped up this year. BMW car sales increased by 3% in August to 62,100 units and rose by 4% to 621,250 units, in the first eight months of the year.

BMW reported that 11,600 Minis were sold in August. Up to and including August, over 88,000 units were supplied, including 25,600 Mini One, 51,750 Mini Cooper and 10,740 of the Mini Cooper S.

Over 20,000 Minis have already been sold this year in Great Britain, and the total is over 15,000 in the German market. These are followed by the USA (12,800), Italy (11,300) and Japan (6,000).

As might be expected, BMW Group market growth in Britain – reinforced by Mini – was well ahead of the rest of Western Europe. In the UK, the BMW Group was able to almost double its sales over the same month last year, showing a rise of 89% to 4,700 cars sold. Up to and including August, sales in Great Britain rose by 56% to 74,200 automobiles.
