BMW hourly workers should be paid more following a recent agreement in the metal and electronics industry.

A BMW-specific wage agreement is expected to follow in the next few weeks, according to Automobilwoche, which quotes the BMW works council.

A BMW spokesman would not confirm the report to dpa-afx, although he did say that talks are on-going but have not yet reached a conclusion.

At present, the lowest hourly pay rate at BMW is EUR6.5. In BMW’s wage agreement, the lowest rate is EUR11.5.

BMW’s works council chief Hans Haumer told Automobilwoche that the BMW wage agreement calls for BMW to only work with employment agencies that pay their workers the basic wage rate. At the moment BMW works with around 100 such agencies.
