Sales and marketing chief Michael Ganal said: “Where the entire premium segment worldwide has grown by around 2% year to date, we have clearly set ourselves apart with a rise of 10%.”

The redesigned 3 series saloon has got off to a good start. It was launched under five months ago and 94,622 have already been sold, 85.0% more than its predecessor model in the comparable months after launch in April 1998 (51,155).

“This means that this car, like its predecessor, is the worldwide market leader amongst mid-range premium saloons right from the start”, added Ganal.

Despite the model line being four years old this year, Mini sales are showing no signs of decline, boosted by the relatively recent arrival of the convertible models and a minor ‘mid-life’ update. July volume rose 7.1% year on year to 17,115 cars while YTD sales are up 12.7% to 125,231.

Convertibles have accounted for 23.6% (29,495) of the model mix so far this year and 48,236 have been sold world-wide since the summer 2004 launch.

Rolls-Royce delivered 45 Phantoms in July, up +15.4% year on year. Year to date of 330 vehicles were, however, down 7.8%.
