After a record 2014 for vehicle sales, BMW Group appears to be delivering on its Detroit show promise for 2015 with January sales up 7% year on year to a record breaking 142,154 units.

BMW brand sales also set a January record – up 6.3% to 124,561 cars.

Group sales chief Ian Robertson said: “We are aiming for further growth in 2015 despite still challenging economic conditions in some markets. There are a number of very exciting model launches coming up this year and our target is to increase global sales for a fifth successive year.”.

Mini achieved record January volume, up 12% to 17,373.

“Following on from our core model [three-door hatchback] change last year, Mini is aiming for sustainable growth in 2015,” brand chief Peter Schwarzenbauer said.

“The strong sales of the new [three and five door hatchback] models we saw in the fourth quarter have continued into the new year and I am confident that these and other new upcoming models will see Mini building on this momentum throughout the year.”
