International exhibition organiser, Messe Frankfurt, says it expects significant interest from Spain at this year’s Automechanika show as the country looks to extract itself from myriad economic problems.

Spain is being battered by financial storms that show no sign of abating and with unemployment now affecting a staggering one in four adults, the domestic auto industry is facing severe difficulties.

“We find that especially Spain is very much interested to display their products abroad, because the home market is very weak,” said Automechanika vice president Michael Johannes at a media briefing in London to launch this year’s Frankfurt show.

“The only opportunities for Spanish companies are to export heavily – that is the only opportunity for Spanish companies to survive. Especially in tough times you have to go out and find your work – you have to do your homework – otherwise you will be in trouble.

Messe Frankfurt organises 11 Automechanika shows around the world, but it is Frankfurt that remains by far the largest such event with nearly 4,500 exhibitors last year, 80% of whom came from outside Germany.

Key themes for this year’s Frankfurt Automechanika will be e-mobility, an aftermarket forum, training, car safety and truck competence.
