Despite registering increased sales in October, in contrast to its main competitors, Audi is cutting production in Germany.


According to Automobilwoche, Audi is considering extending the Christmas break to reduce production at the Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm plants. No details were given.


Audi sales were up 7.2% in October to 82,4000 cars. BMW and Mercedes recorded negative growth during the period.


In the first 10 months of the year sales were up 3.3% to 844,700 units. Sales were up in Europe as well as Asia, although sales fell 3.5% in the USA.


Sales head Peter Schwarzenbauer said the automaker would reach its goal of selling 1m vehicles this year. Sales should be boosted by the launch of the new Q5 in the middle of November.
