Audi sold 264,100 cars worldwide in the first quarter of 2010, its best result for the period with March sales of 110,400 its highest ever monthly total.
“With these sales results, we have even surpassed the comparative figures from our record year in 2008,” said Audi sales and marketing chief Peter Schwarzenbauer. “We expect continued growth compared to last year in the second quarter of 2010. Some of the credit goes to the new generation of our flagship car, the Audi A8, which we are currently launching.”
Schwarzenbauer said that the new A5 Sportback and A5 Cabriolet models helped the company to its record while there were also strong sales of the Q5 and of the A4 and A6 models.
In Europe, first quarter sales increased an annual 12% to around 162,500 units; in the US sales were up 34.8% to 21,315 while in South America sales were up 70.5% at 3,000.
Sales in China were up 77.3% and up 70% in the rest of Asia-Pacific.
