Dow Jones reports that Audi AG said Wednesday that it would build its A4 model in China.

According to the report, the car will be made at the Changchun plant where Audi now builds the A6. Audi aims to install A4 production capacity of around 30,000 by next year and it plans to unveil China’s first locally made A4 in April this year.

The move is seen as part of Volkswagen Group’s effort to counter increasing competition from BMW in China’s executive car market. BMW has obtained permission for a carmaking joint venture with China Brilliance.
