Just 13% of German car owners know how much CO2 their car emits, according to a survey conducted by Jäger + Schmitter Dialog.

Drivers are also not aware of the meaning of the new green, yellow or red stickers that many cars now display in order to be able to drive into city centres with designated low emission zones. Most thought that the colours related to the overall environmental-friendliness of the vehicle. Only a few understood that the colours relate to particulate emissions, and  not to CO2 emissions, for example.

Only 10% of those surveyed were prepared to pay more for a particularly environmentally-friendly vehicle.
