German engineering consultancy FEV Group has set up a subsidiary in Thailand, according to local reports, as it looks to support the country’s nascent electric/hybrid vehicle industry.

The Aachen-based company is a provider of consulting and engineering services focused on the development of advanced vehicle, powertrain and other mobility solutions up to serial production. It employs 5,600 people worldwide across 40 locations.

FEV Group CEO Stefan Pischinger said FEV Thailand, based in Chonburi province just east of Bangkok, would help drive the group’s growth in Asia in assisting companies develop complete vehicles, engines, transmissions and electric powertrains including batteries and fuel cells.

He pointed out that FEV can offer Thailand’s growing automotive industry additional technology solutions to improve standards in areas such as drivetrain efficiency, safety, sustainable energy solutions and ultimately cleaner air.

The move into Thailand comes shortly after the Thai government agreed to provide tax incentives for electric vehicle/plug-in hybrid projects of BMW, Nissan and Honda, in addition to existing participants Toyota and Mercedes-Benz.
