Mazda Motor Corporation will launch its fully redesigned third generation 2 (sold as the Demio in Japan) at the Geneva motor show next month.

The styling – a sleek, sporty hatchback – is a complete change from the boxy mini-MPV look of the previous two generations.

Without giving any details, Mazda said the redesign “is more than just a model freshening of the current 2”.

“In 2002, the 6 heralded the arrival of Mazda’s new generation of Zoom-Zoom vehicles, and now the 2 becomes the first of these to evolve to the next level. As such, [it] represents the progression of [our] Zoom-Zoom brand promise.”

A key change for Mazda Europe is source plant. Unlike the current car, built at a Ford plant in Spain, the new model will again come from Japan, like the first generation model sold here.
