Renault has announced ‘Captur’ as the production name for the J87 project, a B-segment crossover that will also replace the Modus and Grand Modus MPVs. It will reveal full details of this additional model at the Geneva motor show in March.
The new model is pronounced ‘Capture’ in English or ‘Cap-tour’ in French, a Renault spokesperson has told just-auto. This rival for the Peugeot 2008, Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, Ford EcoSport and Fiat 500X will be manufactured at Valladolid in Spain. The vehicle will share its Alliance A platform with both the Clio and another competitor, the Nissan Juke.

The Captur can be thought of as a crossover version of the new Clio. Indeed, that model is also built at Valladolid, as are the soon to be phased out Modus and Grand Modus. The end of these only moderately successful models means that Renault has chosen to withdraw from Europe’s B-MPV segment just as Fiat is finding success there with its new 500L.
Renault Samsung Motors is expected to begin building a version of the Captur at its Busan plant in Korea from the second half of 2013. Renault Group COO Carlos Tavares hinted at the existence of such a vehicle in June 2012 when he mentioned a project to expand the brand’s range with a small crossover. The Samsung QM3 would compete with GM Korea’s new Chevrolet Trax.
