Opel/Vauxhall will show its cleanest ever diesel engine fitted in a production vehicle at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
The 1.6 CDTI Ecotec will be fitted to the Zafira Tourer. Equipped with Opel’s “BlueInjection” SCR technology (selective catalytic reduction), it already meets the strict Euro 6 emissions limits. GM says the new generation 1.6 CDTI Ecotec unit delivers 100 kW/136 hp and 320 Nm of torque for fuel efficiency in the Zafira Tourer of just 4.1 l/100 km consumption and 109 g/km CO2.
The new 1.6 CDTI Ecotec diesel and its engine control unit have been developed by a global team of engineers in Turin, Rüsselsheim and the USA.
“Opel continues to spice up its already successful Zafira Tourer with new and exciting German-engineered technology,” says Mike Ableson, Opel board member and GM Europe vice president, engineering. “Our new generation 1.6 CDTI Ecotec unit is not only the cleanest diesel engine in Opel’s history. It just makes our Zafira Tourer stand out once again: There simply is no other car that offers such a perfect blend of high performance, impressive fuel economy, excellent refinement and top class quality in a seven-seat layout.”
