Opel has released the first images and details of the Opel Mokka. The new vehicle, which will also be sold in the UK with Vauxhall badges, is a, small, five-seat SUV. There will be a version to come for Chevrolet Europe, while the new Buick Encore is another close relative.

Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke claims, “[the Mokka] energises the new SUV B-segment that is predicted to grow considerably over the next years.”

The new model, which is expected to be built by GM Korea alongside the Buick Encore, will come with standard stop-start in European markets. The petrol engine choices consist of a 115hp (85kW) 1.6-litre unit and a 140hp (103kW) 1.4-litre turbo, while there will be one diesel: 130hp (93kW) 1.7-litre unit. Both the 1.4 Turbo and the 1.7 CDTI can be combined either with six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions.

Available technologies include Driver Assistance Systems based on the Opel Eye front camera system, as well as a rear view camera. Furthermore, the Mokka carries ergonomic seating that has been certified by AGR – the German healthy back expert organisation, Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.. Opel and Vauxhall’s fully integrated Flex-Fix bicycle carrier also features. The pull-out system can accommodate three bikes.

The Mokka will be available at Opel dealerships across Europe in late 2012, with the RHD variants to follow for Opel and Vauxhall outlets in Ireland and the UK respectively from early 2013.
