Honda will show its new 1.6-litre diesel at next month’s Geneva motor show, claiming it to be the lightest, most fuel efficient and best performing engine in its class.
The engine, launched at the Tokyo motor show in November, will feature in the redesigned CR-V SUV which goes into UK production at Swindon next August.
The engine is part of a new generation that Honda is calling ‘Earth Dreams Technology’. The company said in a statement that these engines will be introduced throughout the product range over the next three years, making Honda “number one in fuel economy.”
The 1.6-litre diesel is the of a series and will be available in Europe first in the recently redesigned, UK-built Civic hatchback in late 2012 followed soon after by the CR-V and, later, the Jazz which is also now UK-built.
The new motor will deliver sub-100g/km CO2 levels, have maximum power of 120PS and torque of 300Nm.
