Geely's Volvo Cars said global sales "continued to grow at a steady pace in April" with volume up 7.4% year on year to 56,535 cars with China, the US and Europe all seeing growth.

Year to date sales for the January-April 2019 rose 8.9% to 217,855 vehicles.

SUVs continued to spur demand, led by the XC60 and followed by the XC40 and XC90. Newly launched V60 estate (wagon) and US-built S60 saloon models also contributed to the increased volumes.

China saw sales growth of 16.8% in April to 12,192 cars. Growth was due largely to high demand for the locally assembled XC60 and S90.

European sales last month grew 6.1% to 27,963 cars on the back of strong demand for the XC40, followed by the XC60 and the V60.

US sales reached 8,367 cars in April, up 0.4% year on year. The XC90 was the highest-selling model in the region, followed by the XC60.
