Chinese automotive glass manufacturer Fuyao Group this week said it planned to spend US$46m to increase capacity at its plant in Moraine, just outside Dayton, Ohio.

Fuyao, one of the world's largest manufacturers of automotive glass, first established a factory in the US in 2014 with the acquisition of General Motors' former Moraine vehicle assembly plant which was closed in 2008 at the height of the global financial crisis.

The Chinese company spent an initial US$250m at the factory and took on 800 workers. The plant now covers 2m square feet and employs 2,300 people making safety glass for automakers across North America including General Motors, Ford and Subaru.

The group's local subsidiary, Fuyao Glass America, now has five plants in the US employing 10,000 people and supplying glass mainly for the automotive and construction industries.

This latest spend will be used to acquire additional manufacturing equipment, creating an additional 100 jobs at Moraine.
