Jeep – always good for a huge stand and an SUV climbing a rocky outcrop outside one of the display halls at Frankfurt – will launch two compact SUV concepts called Patriot and Compass Rallye at this year’s show.
The vehicles, looking pretty much production-ready, are described as “compact Jeep 4x4s that would deliver fun, freedom, utility, capability, as well as the potential for exceptional fuel economy and interior flexibility – all at a great value” and will be unveiled on the recently announced (and controversial) third press day – September 12.
Jeep said the Patriot concept offers a modern interpretation of classic Jeep styling and would appeal to young buyers looking for fun and freedom at a keen price. New off-road technology would ensure it could be a ‘Jeep Trail Rated 4×4’, and the most capable vehicle in its class.
The Compass Rallye is intended to broaden the global appeal of the Jeep brand and would target new buyers who might not have previously considered the brand. Compact and nimble, the concept is described as “the right size for world markets and is designed to offer a fun-to-drive experience, performance and fuel economy unexpected in the highly competitive compact SUV segment”.
A Honda CR-V/Toyota RAV-4 rival, then.
