FRANKFURT – Maserati switches to EPS to enable new ADAS functions

Maserati has switched its Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante models to electric power steering (EPS) for the 2018 model year, enabling new driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Maserati has switched its Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante models to electric power steering (EPS) for the 2018 model year, enabling new driver assistance systems (ADAS).

“EPS has replaced hydraulic power steering on both sedans, as well as on the model year 2018 Levante, providing better handling and comfort, while retaining the razor sharp steering feel that is a symbolic feature of every Maserati,” the automaker said in a statement.

The switch allows Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) with more active functions to be included.

Maserati revealed range-wide upgrades to its 2018 range at the Frankfurt show.

The Ghibli has had a major styling update and all models have been upgraded, adopting additional high tech items.

For example, Ghibli and Quattroporte now have adaptive full LED headlights with glare free high-beam, based on matrix technology for Ghibli, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli Automotive Lighting, and on L-shape technology for Quattroporte. Both sedans are fitted with more powerful three litre V6 engines with the new, performance-enhancing Integrated Vehicle Control system (IVC) developed by Bosch in collaboration with Maserati.

The Ghibli sports sedan – the brand’s best-selling vehicle with over 70,000 cars delivered in 70 countries since 2013 – now come with two new trims, GranLusso and GranSport, similar to choices first offered for Quattroporte in 2016. The GranLusso version is distinguished by enhanced exterior finish and a luxurious interior with Ermenegildo Zegna silk upholstery.

New optional ADAS features now include Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR, based on Mobileye technology).

The 2018 Levante’s new EPS enables an enhanced Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, which includes functions such as Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR).

The 2018 Quattroporte now has adaptive full LED headlights, the new IVC and EPS that enables active ADAS like Highway Assist (HA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Active Blind Spot Assist (ABSA) and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR).

The 2018 Quattroporte GranTurismo and GranTurismo convertible models have a new, high resolution 8.4 inch capacitive touch screen and refined ergonomics. The infotainment system is combined with standard Harman Kardon Premium Sound system and the interior features a redesigned lower console accommodating a user-friendly double rotary knob.
