Renault’s Modus ‘mini-minivan’, which has failed to set sales targets originally set for it despite a string of favourable critical reviews, has been slightly updated for the 2007 model year.

External changes are new clear ‘crystal’ indicator lenses for the front and rear lights and the wing mirror indicators, while each trim level gains new seat upholstery and higher quality interior materials for the dash and centre console.

Paint colours have been changed and some entry-level models have body coloured bumpers.

Just-auto has previously reported that poor sales prompted Renault’s Spanish plant to trim Modus output from a peak of 1,300 to just 560.

Some production of the redesigned Clio model will be moved to Spain from September to make up the shortfall.

The Modus brought minivan design to a scaled-down package apparently ideal for congested European cities but, despite such clever features as an optional ‘boot hatch’ that allows access without opening the entire tailgate, it has not caught on with buyers as its maker hoped.
