Toyota is extending development times on future models, in response to an increase in product recalls.
That should improve product quality, according to dpa-AFX.
“Up to now our development times have been shorter than the industry average. In the future we will allow ourselves more time,” Tadashi-Arashima, CEO of Toyota Motor Europe, said in an interview with automotive industry trade newspaper, Automobilwoche.
Toyota development lead times are around 26 months at most, but this will be increased by at least three to six months.
The first model to be affected is Corolla successor, the Auris, which will go into production in Burnaston, UK, from the middle of 2007, almost a year later than originally expected.
