Renault is to cut back production at its site in Douai, northern France, which assembles the Renault Scenic model, according to the Les Echos newspaper.

The newspaper said that from October the plant will reduce output from 820 cars a day to 620 and will also transfer some 450 workers to other group facilities.

Renault is currently taking order for around 640 Scenics a day, noted the newspaper. From 2014, Douai will also produce the new Espace and replacement for the Laguna.

A number of European vehicle makers have recently announced cutbacks to production in the face of declining car markets in Europe. Renault has been especially hard hit by market weakness in France.
