Listed within its financial outlook statement for the next fiscal year, Renault has revealed the launch dates for two future models. Both the Twingo and Trafic will be replaced in ‘the fall’ of 2014.
The new Twingo, which has been developed as a joint venture with Daimler under the X07 project code, will be revealed via Twitter later on 13 February. Its motor show premiere will be in Geneva next month. Production is due to start at Renault’s Novo Mesto (Slovenia) factory in July. A smart four-door model will be made at the same facility.
The X82 project, meanwhile, will see successors for the twinned Opel/Vauxhall Vivaro and Renault Trafic built at Renault Group’s Sandouville plant in France. There will be replacements for the delivery van and Passenger/Génération body styles in relevant markets. Unlike the current models, there will be no production at Vauxhall Motors’ Luton plant.
In other news, Renault’s statement goes on to note that, “The group is going to extend its market coverage with a complete line-up of crossover vehicles, an A-entry vehicle designed for India and South America as well as new pick-up trucks for emerging markets”.
More information on products for DRAC, the Dongfeng Renault joint venture in the Chinese city of Hubei, is also listed. The annual production capacity of 150,000 had already been stated but for the first time, Renault has revealed that more than one model will be made there. These will be “C and D segment crossovers”. That would most likely mean the next Koleos and Espace, both of which will use the Alliance’s new CMF architecture.
