Renault has selected three partners – CSC, HP and Atos Origin – to take charge of its three main outsourced IT activities: management of the application portfolio, the workstation and its environment and operations and associated support.
At the same time, the French automaker has reorganised its information technologies and systems department (DTSI) with a view to rationalising and simplifying information systems in the Renault group and modernising relationships with suppliers.
In 2003, the Renault group launched an initiative to prepare the in-depth transformation of the company’s information technology and systems function in line with the group’s growing international dimension. The initial studies revealed that both the internal organisation and the relationships between Renault and its suppliers had to change in order to establish new working methods that effectively combine in-house expertise with skills on offer from suppliers.
Renault’s IT and systems strategy aims to achieve a range of goals. First, the group is seeking to rationalise its infrastructure and accelerate the reduction of the number of information systems. At the same time, Renault is aiming to pursue its innovation in the core processes in the automotive industry (design, development, manufacturing, sales and aftersales) and to improve the skills of its staff to world-class level.
The relationship between Renault and its suppliers is founded on three functional areas: the workstation and its environment, management of the application portfolio, and operations. For each area, Renault has decided to call on a single partner that was chosen after three calls for tender in an effort to consolidate its relations with suppliers, which are a source of increasing costs and prevent Renault from increasing its competitive edge.
