Renault senior management and trade unions have signed an agreement offering employees the opportunity to work from home two to four days a week.


“New technology facilitates new ways of working that make the company more competitive, and meet the aspirations of employees looking for a better balance between home and work. By reducing commuting, the agreement also contributes to Renault’s sustainable development action,” the company said in a statement.


Unfortunately, it is not yet possible for line assembly staff to “work from home” though, with virtual development of components and assembly processes, we wouldn’t rule it out one day.


For now, though, the Renault telecommuting agreement applies to administrative personnel, technicians, engineers and managers with roll-out on a voluntary basis.


To work from home two to four days a week, employees must have approval from supervisors and spend at least one day a week at their usual workplace. The arrangement can be reversed at any time, subject to a one month notice period.

Teleworkers retain individual and collective entitlements applicable within the company. Renault will cover the cost of the equipment needed to work from home – including a laptop computer, a high-speed internet connection and an ergonomic chair.


Renault said the agreement was spurred by recent technological changes that facilitate new ways of working and offer interested employees the opportunity to strike a better balance between career and family.


New telecommunications tools enable employees to work as efficiently from home as at the office, the automaker added.
