Renault and Sita (part of the Suez group) are to jointly develop an end-of-life vehicle recycling programme in France.

In a claimed world first, three companies will pool their respective expertise and resources. The joint venture is expected to lead to a largely self-financed investment of EUR100m over five years, Renault said in a statement.

The joint venture will take control of Indra Investissement, a company active in vehicle dismantling for over 20 years.

The target is effective recovery of 95% of all vehicles by 2015.
