Renault has said that it could build more Micras in France than originally planned, but that any increased output would be linked to a productivity agreement with unions to maintain competitiveness.
The company has said that it could produce up to 132,000 Nissan Micra cars annually at its plant in Flins from 2016. Last year it said that the figure would be 82,000. reports in France suggest that the company wants to reach a productivity agreement with unions by the end of February.
Current Micra is made in India at Chennai, but the sourcing change for the next Micra is designed to mitigate overcapacity at Renault’s Flins plant.
Previous Micras for Europe were made at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, north east England, but third generation production was shifted to India in 2010 while the English plant geared up for the Qashqai, Juke, Leaf EV, Note and a future Infiniti model from 2015 (Q30).
