French supermarket chain E Leclerc and Renault have signed a letter of intent to equip the outlets’ parking lots with charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Some 50 E Leclerc centres will feature the development by 2011, 150 by the end of 2012 and nearly 500 by 2015.
The Renault-Nissan Alliance and E Leclerc will work together to select the type of charging installation, for example a standard charge of 3 kW, a quick charge of 45 kW, or both.
“The millions of consumers who patronise our stores travel by car and park in our lots,” said E Leclerc Centers president Michel-Edouard Leclerc.
“Developing responsible consumerism also implies reducing the impact of transportation on the environment. The partnership we are signing with the Renault-Nissan Alliance will encourage the use of electric vehicles in France.”
Renault estimates electric vehicles will represent around 10% of automobile sales in France by 2020.
