Renault says it will create 100 jobs with ‘open-ended contracts’ at its Cleon site this year as part of its plan to hire 1,000 workers in 2015, including 500 in French plants.

More than 50 years after it was built in 1958, the Cléon plant is taking on the production of the all-Renault electric engine, the R 240.

Renault maintains combined with optimised battery management, this engine extends the ZOE’s range to 240km – an increase of 30km.

To enable the launch, EUR50m (US$54m)was invested from the EUR300m earmarked for the plant in 2011.

The job creation programme follows a plan developed in 2012, which features around 6,000h of training in preparation for the production of the R 240.

The plan includes general theoretical training on the electric engine for all players involved in the project as well as technical training on the machines, in cooperation with the suppliers, for operators and maintenance staff.
