PSA is currently developing five new upscale cars that will help give the manufacturer a more premium image.
PSA CEO Chrisitan Streiff spoke to Automobilwoche and said that the five new models would be positioned above the current model range and would be launched between 2009 and 2012.
Streiff said that they would also use existing platforms but be well-equipped or have high performance engines. “The role of ‘premium competitive’ models will be key to our strategy,” said Streiff.
Streiff would not elaborate on any specific model details, but the Peugeot 308 RC Z, a sports coupe based on the 308 platform shown as a concept at Frankfurt last September, is thought to be a possibility. Another possible model mooted by Automobilwoche is the Citroen C5 Airscape also shown in September.
“We achieve better margins in the upper vehicle segments, so this strategy is important for us,” said Streiff.
