Jac Nasser CEO of Ford Motor Company and Jean Martin Folz President of PSA Peugeot Citroën today announced their companies’ intention to cooperate in the emerging field of automotive Telematics in Europe. This new cooperation will provide their primary brands opportunities to improve their customer relationships and reinforce end-user loyalty.
The proposed cooperation will cover several competencies, such as automotive design and engineering for Telematics, development of services and mobile technology.
Both PSA Peugeot Citroën and Ford believe that success in this new market will mainly be determined by achieving scale of users and usage and by delivering high value, low cost products and services to consumers through strategic partnerships.
It is planned to complete a cooperation agreement by the end of 2000, in order to:
PSA Peugeot Citroën and Vivendi initiated in Europe a joint venture called EGERY in August 2000 to provide an offer in the complete value chain of telematics, meanwhile FORD launched WINGCAST, a new Telematics joint venture with Qualcomm in the United States.
PSA Peugeot Citroën and Ford intend to collaborate in Europe, leveraging the various partnerships they already have established with leaders of the relevant sectors, and are open to participation of other partners that might be interested in joining the cooperation.
