Nissan Europe is evaluating the sales potential in Europe for the next-generation Cube.

“Bringing the Cube here is a possibility, but we have to be intelligent in the market approach,” said Nissan Europe regional product manager for compact vehicles Matthieu Galipeau

He estimated that Nissan could sell 40,000 Cubes a year in Europe.

The redesigned Cube is scheduled to go on sale in 2008. Nissan has designed the car so it can be sold worldwide. The current car is a Japan-only model that is known for its odd, box-like styling, hence the name Cube.

If Nissan decides to sell the car in Europe, the Cube’s competitors would include the next-generation Smart ForTwo minicar, due in early 2007, and the Peugeot 1007 small minivan.

Introducing the Cube into Europe would fit in with Nissan’s strategy to offer more stylish vehicles in Europe’s minicar and small-car segments.

Nissan Europe currently only sells the Micra small car and the coupe-cabriolet version of the car, the Micra C+C, in those segments.

Nissan plans to make about 26,000 Micra C+Cs a year at its plant in Sunderland, England. The Micra C+C went on sale this month.
