The French car market continues its downward track in November with sales 4.4% down according to data released by the French carmakers’ trade body, the CCFA. However, the result is not as bad as it appears.

November’s drop leaves the French car market so far this year 7.1% below last year.

However, the CCFA said that two fewer reporting days in November this year impacted the figures negatively and that on an adjusted like-for-like basis, car sales in the month were up 5.7% versus last year.

The French car market in November totalled 138,298 units.

The month was relatively good for the two domestic groups. Car sales of PSA Peugeot Citroën rose 4.5% in November to 42,845 units (+ 1.5% for Citroën, to 19,426 units and 7.1% for Peugeot, to 23,419 units) and those of the Renault Group by 3.8% to 32,592 units (+ 0.4% for the Renault brand, to 25,277 units, and up 18% for Dacia, to 7,315 units).
