French Economic Redevelopment Minister, Arnaud Montebourg, has welcomed plans by Nissan to build the Micra at Renault‘s Flins plant near Yvelines, with an objective of producing 82,000 vehicles per year from 2016.
“This historic announcement is made in the framework of commitments given by Renault in the competitivity agreement of 13 March,” said a statement from Montebourg’s Ministry.
“It shows the good working and reciprocal benefits of the Alliance made between Renault and Nissan in 1999 and reinforced today.”
Previous Micras for Europe were made at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, north east England, but third generation production was shifted to India in 2010 while the English plant geared up for the Juke and Leaf EV, as well as the coming new Note and a future Infiniti model.
