Renault has launched the Dacia Logan van, the first model to be launched within the framework of its Renault Commitment 2009 commercial vehicle range renewal plan.
This is the third vehicle in the X90 programme after the sedan and wagon is and Dacia’s first ever small van.
It is built at the Pitesti factory in Romania and will go on sale under the Dacia brand in Romania and Bulgaria next month, and from the end of 2007 in other markets.
The new model is aimed mainly at small business owners, tradesmen and traders, as well as small and medium-sized fleets.
“The Logan Van will permit Dacia to develop brand loyalty in Romania while opening up fresh opportunities in other markets,” Renault said in a statement.

It also explains the hinged, rather than sliding rear doors fitted to purpose-designed small vans from European makers such as PSA and Fiat.
Renault responds that such doors ensure wide access to the cargo area from both the left- and right-hand sides, unlike many rivals. Rear access is via 1/3-2/3 split asymmetric side-hinged doors.
Production-related investments for the two Logan models totaled EUR110m for a total outlay of EUR154m.

The body structure allows a standard payload of 800kg claimed to put the Logan van at the top-end of the small van segment.
Maximum load-carrying volume is 2.5 cubic metres while overall length – up 200mm compared with the sedan – permits a maximum cargo length of 1,936mm.
Tax-paid prices start at EUR6,700 in Romania.
The Logan is now available in 51 countries and more than 415,000 cars were sold between September 2004 and the end of December 2006 (22,833 in 2004, 144,969 in 2005 and 247,514 in 2006).
The top ten markets are Romania, Russia, France, Morocco, Algeria, Turkey, Colombia, Spain, Germany and Ukraine and it is currently built in Romania (since September 2004), Russia (since April 2005), Morocco (since June 2005) and Colombia (since July 2005). Production is due to begin in Iran, Brazil and India in the first half of 2007.
