Making its world debut at this year’s Paris International Motor Show, and taking centre stage on a Citroën stand bursting with innovation, technology and style, is the new Citroën C5.
With full details being kept under wraps until the show, the C5 will form the centrepiece of a Citroën display that will also include the Osmose – a concept vision of shared transport for the future – a Berlingo Multispace which has borrowed a few tricks from the aircraft industry and the stylish new look Xsara.
The Paris Motor Show sees the birth of Osmose, a bold concept from Citroën which paints a vision of user-friendly vehicle design leading to a new form of relationship between pedestrians and motorists, while addressing the broader issue of responsible car use. Osmose drivers will be able to advertise their journey destination on the side of the vehicle and indicate whether they are willing to pick up pedestrians heading in the same direction. An Osmose can be flagged down like a black cab, or “booked” via WAP phone technology. Each Osmose can carry up to five adults and, as a hybrid, runs in zero emissions mode when in town, where it offers additional pedestrian safety with its external airbags.
Citroën’s habit of producing real suggestions for tomorrow, today, continues with the innovative Berlingo Multispace Modutop roof. Offering five tinted roof panels, an extra seven storage compartments – along similar lines to aircraft overhead lockers – and individual ventilation and lighting controls, the Modutop makes this family friend even more practical and easy to live with. External roofbars can be pivoted for different loads, whilst a removable roofbox, an overhead CD/cassette holder and two 12 V sockets are all incorporated.
Visitors to the Paris Show will also be able to explore the new look Citroën Xsara, with its prominent new front-end appearance. Offering significant improvements in style, safety and technology, new look Xsara incorporates the latest technological developments, such as voice-activation of radio/CD, satellite navigation and mobile phone, as well as electronic parking assistance and side curtain airbags.
Alongside a comprehensive selection of current models, the Citroën stand will also feature other examples of cutting-edge technology. This will include Citroën’s revolutionary 3 d Generation Hydractive Suspension, capable of automatically adjusting its ride height according to the vehicle speed, a new particulate filter to be fitted to the next generation of common rail diesel engines, the hybrid Xsara Dynactive, and the mould-breaking Pluriel concept car.
