Renault’s adviser to submit a draft reorganisation of the security aspects of the automaker says CEO Carlos Ghosn was a “victim” in the so-called spy affair.

Alain Bauer, Professor of Criminology at the Conservatoire Général des Arts et Métiers and Alain Juillet, senior advisor in the firm of Orrick Rambaud Martel, were recently tasked with the draft reorganisation of the tools needed for the “protection of the assets of the company,” with the former mounting a stout defence of Ghosn on French radio station RTL.

“He [Ghosn] subcontracted, delegated, he has been the victim of an abuse of trust in this matter,” he said. “He is more of a victim than anything else.”

“I understand the phrase that the captain of a ship does not step down in the middle of a storm, I understand that very well,” said Bauer.

Bauer – who also advises French president Nicolas Sarkozy – also strongly declined to reveal whether or not the Head of State had indicated any view concerning the Renault affair to him.

Asked on the radio station if he had been chosen by the automaker to ‘reconcile’ Renault to President Sarkozy “who you advise”, Bauer cited his experience with more than half of the CAC40 listed companies as well as overseas businesses.
